Public Defender of Georgia and her Deputy visited the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office

Head of the Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office, the Seimas Ombudsman Augustinas Normantas and the Seimas Ombudswoman Milda Vainiutė met with Nino Lomjaria, the Public Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia and Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, who are currently visiting Lithuania. At the beginning of the meeting, the guests were introduced to the functions performed by the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office and it‘s mandates. In addition, the attention was drawn to the fact that human rights issues are particularly sensitive.

The meeting also focused on ensuring the independence of the Ombudsman. The Head of the Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office talked about the challenges faced by the Seimas Ombudsmen and presented a resolution passed by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania on 9 November 2021, stressing, inter alia, the importance of the Ombudsman’s independence.
