Members of the European Parliament visited the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office
Augustinas Normantas, the Head of the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office, hosted the meeting with Members of the European Parliament visiting Lithuania. The guests were interested in the human rights situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. They were presented with the Seimas Ombudsman’s Report on the human rights situation at the temporary detention places of foreigners at the border with Belarus. In addition, the issues of independent human rights monitoring at the border were discussed during the meeting. Finally, the Seimas Ombudsman A. Normantas drew the attention to the role of the European Union in resolving issues related to increased irregular migration, including the call on Lithuania to respect the freedom of the media.
