The term of the Seimas Ombudsman Mrs. Albina Radzevičiūtė expired on 15 February 2010 and her powers were terminated. She had held the office of the Seimas Ombudsman since 2005. According to division of the Seimas Ombudsmen to respective fields of work, Mrs. Albina Radzevičiūtė investigated activities of officers of state institutions and agencies about abuse of office by, bureaucracy of officers or other violations of human rights and freedoms in the sphere of public administration.

After the Seimas (Parliament) passed a resolution regarding termination of powers of the Seimas Ombudsman Mrs. Virginija Pilipavičienė due to the end of her term, Mrs. Pilipavičienė's spheres of activities were passed to the Seimas Ombudsman Mr. Augustinas Normantas, who investigates complainants' complaints about abuse of office by or bureaucracy of officers of county governor administrations and municipal institutions and agencies.

On 10 November 2009 the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania passed a resolution upon the termination of powers of the Seimas Ombudsman Mrs. Zita Zamžickienė. She held the office of the Seimas Ombudsman for two terms in succession. The second term of the Seimas Ombudsman expired on 17 October 2009.

Seimas Ombudsman Virginija Pilipavičienė has recently completed an investigation of a complaint launched by the chairman and 70 representatives of Roma community living in Kirtimai settlement (gypsy encampment) in Vilnius. The complainants requested help in solving burning problems such as payment for public services, housing, legitimisation of the land of Kirtimai settlement and other problems that have not been solved for years.

At the end of November the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office is starting a two-week citizens' visiting programme, dedicated to the International Human Right's Day and organised in order to inform the citizens of Lithuania about their rights and possibilities to protect them.
