IMG 3176 EditAugustinas Normantas, the Head of the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office and the Dean of the Law School of Mykolas Romeris University prof. Lyra Jakulevičienė exchanged views on the implementation of the Human Rights Program prepared by the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office by emphasising the importance of human rights education in the development of a young generation of specialists.

During the meeting, A. Normantas presented the initiative of the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office to contribute to the education of young specialists by providing them with knowledge of human rights and freedoms.

A. Normantas noted that as a national human rights institution, the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office aims at continuing a successful project launched a couple of years ago, during which students of higher education institutions could gain practical knowledge of human rights by familiarising themselves with the specifics of complaint handling as well as visiting social care and imprisonment institutions.

Professor Lyra Jakulevičienė drew attention to the fact that experiential education is especially relevant in the preparation of young specialists. Therefore, she proposed to cooperate in the program by involving lecturers of the Human Rights Laboratory of Mykolas Romeris University.

The Seimas Ombudsmen's Office, together with the Law School of Mykolas Romeris University and Law Faculty of Vilnius University, is planning to implement the Human Rights Program prepared by the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office, in which motivated students of different Bachelor's study programs in social sciences will be invited to participate. Successful completion of the program will be accompanied by a certificate of completion of the Human Rights Program.
