The Seimas Ombudsmen's Office and ENNHRI held a seminar on human rights based care

KupiskisThe Seimas Ombudsmen's Office in cooperation with ENNHRI expert Dr Ciara O'Dwyer commenced a seminar on human rights based care "Human rights-based care of elderly" in Kupiškis Centre for Social Services.

The social workers from different institutions within Panevėžys region came to advance their knowledge of human rights based care at the seminar. Mr Dainius Bardauskas, the Mayor of Kupiškis District Municipality, addressed the audience by emphasizing the importance and timeliness of the training.

A workshop aimed to introduce the core findings of the European overview report to the social workers of social care institutions which have been monitored by a monitoring team of the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office and provide an overall picture of how human rights legislation is taken into account when planning and delivering services.

Also, the event intended to raise awareness of employees of monitored institutions on objective minimum standards required for all individuals to live with dignity by providing examples of human rights concerns and good practices.

Addressing the audience, the experts from the Seimas Ombudsmen's Office introduced the acute problems in social care institutions and shared best practices.

In January 2015, ENNHRI commenced an EU-funded project, The Human Rights of Older Persons and Long-term Care. As part of the project, six of ENNHRI’s members - the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) have been monitoring residential care institutions in their countries to build a clear picture of how human rights legislation is taken into account when planning and delivering services.
