A delegation from Armenia visits Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office

 MG 7540On 20 September 2016, the Seimas Ombudsman, Head of the Office Mr. Augustinas Normantas hosted a meeting with Mr. Arman Tatoyan, Human Rights Defender and Eduard Israyelyan, Head of Child Rights Protection Division of the Republic of Armenia. The meeting focused on the activities of the Seimas Ombudsmen and the Human Rights Defender, human rights problems in Armenia and Lithuania as well as mechanisms that ensure implementation of human rights.

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia was interested in the implementation of Seimas Ombudsmen‘s recommendations and keen to know how the cooperation with state and municipal institutions is maintained. When talking about the activities of the Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office Mr. A. Normantas drew the guests’ attention to the fact that the Seimas Ombudsmen put emphasis not only to the cooperation with state and municipal institutions but also with the civil society and NGOs.


In the course of introduction of the activities of the Seimas Ombudsmen‘s Office, the Head of the Office also noted that with an aim to enhance society‘s knowledge about human rights, the Seimas Ombudsmen organise different events, meetings and pay close attention to publicity of their activities.

Mr. A. Tatoyan was a former member of the Council of Europe European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Agent of the Government of the Republic of Armenia before the European Court of Human Rights. He was appointed to the post of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia in February 2016 but has been working in the Office since its establishment in 2004.
